The lemon water works every time, even if you notice the slightest blackening or tarnishing, it is called anti tarnish only because it can be completely reversed and made as good as new for as long as you want without having to go anywhere to get its original shine back. 

In general, to maintain best quality it is advisable to store the product in the airtight box provided to you and do not keep it in water for long durations. 

If it gets wet it is competely okay so long as you don't keep it soaked for hours. Just wipe it dry with a cloth right after you have used it in water.
